Electrolysis

What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method of permanent hair removal and has been around since 1875. Electrolysis can treat all hair types, all hair colors (including gray, red, blonde, and white), and is safe for all ages and skin tones.

Electrolysis is great for those with hereditary, hormonal, medically induced, or just flat out unwanted hair growth. There are a lot of temporary quick fix options for hair removal out there with the promise of permanent results, which is false advertisement. You may achieve some reduction to semi-permanent results, but Electrolysis is the only proven method to produce actual permanent results.

Electrolysis is a lengthy process that requires your dedication and patience. We go into each follicle and deliver treatment. With each treatment the follicles will weaken, and you'll start to see the hair thin until it's completely gone. Since it is a permanent solution, it takes several treatments over a course of 12 to 36 months for permanency. This mostly depends on the amount of hair being treated, any hormonal issues, your follicles response to the treatment, and your dedication to keeping up with your recommended treatment schedule.

How many hours does it typically take for an area to be completely treated?

It depends on the amount of hair you have, any hormone issues you may have that has caused the hair growth, and how each follicle responds to the treatment.

As long as you stay consistent with your hair treatment plan, you will see desired results. But if you start and stop, start and stop, the hair follicle will have a chance to get back to its normal healthy state or stick around in it's weakened state.

How often do I need treatment?

Treatment is usually 1 to 4 times a month, depending on how fast your hair grows. Every hair follicle grows on a different cycle. Here's an example, if your hair grows fast, you may need to be seen weekly, and then you will start to slow down on hair growth and only need to be seen maybe 1 or 2 times a month until the hair is completely gone. The best thing to do is schedule an appointment as soon as the hairs pop through.

Can I shave, wax, or tweeze between appointments?

You cannot tweeze or wax your hairs in between treatments because it will combat against treatment, and require more treatment sessions. Shaving is ok but if you can avoid it, try too. The best thing to do is schedule an appointment as soon as the hairs pop through.

How long does it take to work on a leg, armpit, chin, etc...?

During the consultation, we'd be able to better answer how long each session should take. We look at the amount of hair, what modality of treatment will work best for you, and how your follicles react to treatments.

What's the difference between Laser hair removal and Electrolysis?

Laser hair removal is a hair reduction method and in some cases, it can produce semi-permanent results. Laser can also cause the hair to grow more in the area being treated. That's called paradoxical hypertrichosis. Hair can also come back requiring on going touch-up treatments for the same follicle.

Electrolysis, on the other hand, is the only FDA approved and proven method of permanent hair removal. Once the follicle is destroyed, the hair will not come back. And it can treat the hair colors (gray, red, blonde, and white) that laser cannot treat.

Does Electrolysis hurt?

The pain level is different for everyone. Our goal is to make it as painless as possible while still getting you the best results. You can try over the counter numbing cream first to see what you think. We also have other options if needed, so please ask.

For women: The week leading up to your period, and while on your period, may make you more sensitive to pain.
